Boston Gay and Lesbian Pride Parade Saturday, June 14
|
Please join us for the Boston Gay and Lesbian Gay Pride Parade on Saturday, June 14. Each year since 1998, a group from CFS has marched in this parade. We were the first elementary school to officially register as a contingent, and, each year, about 50 faculty, staff, parents, and children have participated.
This year, we will gather at 11:30 a.m. at the CFS banner in front of the Bank of America at the corner of Tremont and Clarendon Streets in the South End and proceed from there to our place in the line of march. The parade officially begins at noon with a minute of silence and ends at Government Center, where a rally and musical program take place. Remember to bring sunblock, water, and snacks, as well as whistles, balloons, banners - anything to add to the celebration.
For questions or more information, please contact Cindy Lux (617.782.7426) or Nancy Alach (617.354.3880, ext. 119, or nalach@cfsmass.org).

Donate A Book

Your child can decorate a special bookplate for the gift book. Come to the library, call, or contact us (library@cfsmass.org), and Sasha, Ellen, or Ilene can give you suggestions or help you choose from our selection of gift books.

Beautiful Drum Missing
|
We have a hand-carved djembe from Ghana, child size with carved giraffes on it. It has a noticeable crack from the bottom up. The drum is goblet shaped and was in a kente cloth bag in the drama room closet. It is no longer there. If you have borrowed it or know of its whereabouts please contact Marytha (ext 163) or return it to the music room. It was brought to us directly from Ghana and we miss it a lot!!!!!!

Boxtops For Education
|
I don't like to toot my own horn, but.... I am having my sister in No. Carolina, my daughter in Illinois, and two local friends save "BOXTOPS FOR EDUCATION"'s, pink rectangles for me. For CFS!!!! Now, couldn't some of you try a little harder? Look for the products with the pink shape on their packages - tops, bottoms, or sides - and just tear them off! I'll trim and mail them at the end of Oct. and we'll get free-for-nothing money. So far, we've gotten just about $500, and that ain't hay! If you're wondering if it's worth my time, it is! It amounts to only about two episodes of Law and Order and they are counted, packaged, and ready to send in. Besides, I'm retired! So please remember, all during the summer and all during the fall, to spot, tear, and bring. Check Marilyn's desk for the drop off spot. Thanks for all! Jean Kindleberger
(Partial list of products participating: Cheerios, Wheaties, Chex, Huggies, Kleenex, Ziplock, Old el Paso, Yoplait)

| New Film by Alumna Sudip Peterson
|
Alumna Sudip Peterson (class of 1994) has co-produced a documentary Sour: 4 Peace in the Middle East. The Northeast Premier is June 14, 2008, 12 - 1 p.m. at Loews Theatre/AMC at the Boston Common. Sour follows two groups of Arab and Israeli skaters meeting for the first time, breaking culture barriers, and sharing a united passion for skating and life. Sour was shot in neighboring countries Jordon and Israel during the Israel/Lebanon conflict of 2006. Sour captures an important viewpoint that the news reports missed: a window to acts of peaceful rebellion, community action, and outreach that unify people who come together and do what most politicians only talk about. In essence, Sour is a film about doing what you love with people you are not supposed to like.

Important Change in School Phone System
|
In response to requests from members of the community and to changes in technology, we have upgraded our telephone system.
The school phone will be put on "automatic" between the hours of 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. You will always have the option of dialing "0" for the operator and getting the receptionist. If you dial a classroom extension, you will be forwarded to the classroom teacher's voicemail.
Administration and support staff will be available for your direct-dialed calls. Here is a listing of departments: Head of School's Office: ext. 125, Principal: ext. 107, Assistant Principal: 119, Admission Office: ext. 144, Business Office: ext. 117, Development Office: ext. 103, Nurses Office: ext 113, Lower School Extended Day Program: ext 141, Middle School Extended Day Program: ext 105, Building Manager: ext. 159.
The school's office hours are 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The phones will be answered by the receptionist between the hours of 7:45 a.m. and 10 a.m. and again between 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. If you dial by name, please use the first 4 letters of the person's first or last name. Using only 3 letters can cause confusion because we have several people who share the first 3 letters of their names. Please listen to the message closely and remember to choose 1 for Administration and staff, 2 for faculty and 0 for the operator. Thank you.

WE NEED YOU
|
We are seeking two parents from each grade to volunteer to to be grade parents next year. Having at least two parents from each grade in place before the end of the school year helps to create a smooth transition in September to the new school year and ease recruitment of the remaining grade parents needed. Class parents serve an important role in the CFS community, helping to facilitate connections between families and the school in a number of ways. Class parents receive an orientation at the beginning of the school year, as well as ongoing support from the Class Parent Coordinators.
The primary responsibilities of the class parents are to · help with 2-4 class potlucks that feature student work during the school year · distribute information from the teacher, school, and Family Association to the parents and guardians and, in specific cases, to serve as a conduit for information from parents and guardians to the teacher, school, and Family Association · help recruit volunteers for school-wide events · help new families feel welcomed into the CFS community · attend several meetings of grade parents during the year · plan and coordinate teacher gifts at the end of the year, if the class chooses to do so.
To volunteer please contact Shelley Evans (shelleyevans@kjpmail.com) or Catherine Bird (catherine-bird@comcast.net).
