The 2006 Book Sale by the Numbers*

3 librarians** and

2 book sale co-clerks organized…

45 parent and guardian volunteers who sorted and priced…

1,000s of books donated by the CFS community.

7,000 children’s books were priced and sold, and there were many thousands more for adults.

251 students and over 300 adults bought books.

300 books went into the library collection.

300 books went into classroom collections.

Books from the sale were donated to various organizations:

  • 30 boxes to Massachusetts prisons
  • 25 boxes to Goodwill Industries
  • 25 boxes to Teen L.E.E.P (Leadership, Employment, and Entrepreneurship Opportunities Program)
  • 20 boxes to the library in Plaquemine Parish, a hurricane-devastated part of Louisiana
  • 5 boxes to the Uzimi Foundation, a Quaker-founded youth empowerment group in Kenya
  • 2 boxes to Tibetan schools in India
  • 2 boxes to Room to Grow, a Boston organization whose mission is to enrich the lives of babies born into poverty
  • 2 boxes to the Holden School, an independent school in Charlestown for low-income, special needs youth in grades 6-12
  • 2 boxes to the Lynn Women’s Health Center

$500 from the sale was given to the George Fox School in Rwanda.

$51 in change was counted by second-graders

$8,500 was raised by the Book Sale!

Half of this goes to the library, and the rest goes to meet needs throughout the school.
